Properta as legal advisor to the Municipality of Inkoo in low-carbon steel mill project
Properta Attorneys Ltd acted as the legal advisor to the Municipality of Inkoo as the municipality is preparing for a new low-carbon steel plant in Joddböle. We had the opportunity to demonstrate our expertise in contract- and project consultancy by assisting the municipality in drafting a new zoning plan for the area, as well as negotiating land use agreements with landowners, and preparing other agreements related to the development project.
This new steel plant-project is the largest green transition investment in Finland, and one of the largest industrial investments in the country overall. The over 200-hectare development site will host not only a low-carbon steel production facility but also an integrated clean hydrogen production plant and a new quay.
The aim of the plant is to reduce carbon dioxide emissions from steel production by 90% compared to the European average across the value chain. Most of the emission reduction will be achieved by replacing coal in the reduction of iron ore pellets with hydrogen that has been produced using carbon-free electricity.
